From the endless green hills and the Holy Mountains, where the time stops, straight from the heart of the earth where healing waters embrace the sky, there lives the region called Obsotelje and Kozjansko.
Mystically. Written by legends. About the robber Guzaj, who was a domestic Robin Hood of Kozjansko, petrified Ajdovska wife, who cursed the sun. The mysterious Babna Wine, which helped the Countess Cecil to continue the noble generation. The most famous legend among all, Saint Emma was the patroness of Obsotelje and Kozjansko. Our wines proudly carry her name as a brand name “Emino” in translation “Emma’s”.
The Slovene folk tradition puts the birthplace of the princess Emma at the end of the first millennium to the castle Pilštanj in Kozjansko. Wedding with Savinjska region count Viljem II. Breže Selški connected quarantine princess even more with Obsotelje and Kozjansko.
Despite the tragic loss of her husband and both sons and other great life experiences, Emma never lost faith and laughter. She devoted her entire life to the care of the poor. She also established numerous parishes and churches in Slovenia and Carinthia in southern Austria.
Even today, Sveta Ema is the only Slovenian female saint, honoured throughout the world as a saint of liberation, a freeman of peasants and prisoners, a saviour of people in distress, a helper of sick and disabled, most often depicted with a book and a plate and spoon in her hands. Her cultural legacy has been accompanying Obsotelje and Kozjansko by the third millennium in the church of Sv. Ema in village Sveta Ema,in the church and chapel of Sv. Ema in Kozje, Podsreda Castle and Olimje Monastery. Also on her property in Imeno, where House of Wines »Emino« is located, in Podčetrtek, Mestinje, Rogatec and Šmarje pri Jelšah, where her goodness shaped the culture of our places and our people.
